Webtoon Check-Up: Cheese in the Trap

Before I begin, let me first say that this post is meant to be for Tokki. It was...supposed to be a birthday present, but I freaking suck x10 and this is a month+ late. Basically, I am really late. So happy belated birthday present... sort of? Would someone even want a review for their birthday? I don't even know. Lord, I think I found my twin...it's a trash can. OKAY Cheese in the Trap!
(Please don't hate me I know I'm trash)

Remeber that thing I did on Korean webtoons? Well guess what? This is one! If you didn't already know! HAHAHAHAH wow.
Anyway, this one is a very populaur one. In fact, it's getting a live action adaption reeeally soon! (K-Drama) The cast has already been decided and the original website where you could read the comic for free, now has it's head blown up because of the drama. It's blown up so much that now you have to have a subscribtion to read seasons 1-3 of the comic. Woooo....

BUT, it's still on WebtoonLINE and although it's, like 2 seasons behind, it's regularly being updated every Sunday by dedicated translators. And the best part, it's free to read. Even though the original is already on season 4, it is still ongoing (Jung x Sul 5EVA) ~but I love you too Inho
Kya! Look at Jung! He's jealous! It's so cute! I CAN'T~!!!

Cheese in the Trap begins with Hong Sul, who just came back from a break off of school. Its implied that she had a rough time the previous year because of stress and the tole it had on her body. (you find out allll about it later.....Cheese loves flash backs <3) Sul, to celebrate coming back, goes out with her friends and other classmates. You are then introduced to Yoo Jung. A popular, handsome, intelligent, rich boy from the same school and major. And surprise, surprise, he has no intrest what-so-ever in our main protag. Or so she believed, based on the events that had transpired last year. So then what's with him being so nice all of sudden? Sul was susicipious and flashbacks to the past year help clear an ever present fog over this webtoon that really doesn't get cleared up until towards the end of season 3. Not. Kidding. With the boy who purposely avoided her last year now trying inviting her out to dinner and starting conversations, what is she supposed to think now? All she knows is, that she doesn't trust him, or it.

When you're just too
precious for the world.
Cheese in the Trap is a refreshing change from the usual romance atmosphere (well, if you read webtoons a lot, it's like um, yup cool. Highschool is not the main focus. There is some post college, highschool, a weird mix between young adulthood and full adulthood. Basically go webtoon romance) But yeah, for those who aren't used to college romance stuff *cough*manga*cough* then this is a nice change of setting. I will touch on the fact that it does have some classic K-Drama characters though. The foreigner, the rich sunbae (or rich guy in general), the poor and hardworking heroine, and the jealous girl because the main girl got the guy. Although these tropes are evident, they don't really do the same thing for the comic as it would a drama.

And so, I continue into an aspect of Cheese in the Trap that I love the most. The characters. I will not say that they are all realistic... because they kind of aren't? *shrugs* They're like an extreme version of what they are supposed to be....but like mildly extreme. Does that make sense? But anyway, the webtoon is very character led. Which means the characters are flipping amazing. And they are. They flesh out and change with the help of each other over the course of the story. And, really, a lot of the characters do. Even the side characters! Props to the autohr for making the side characters just as important, memorable, and recognizeable as the main protag....most of the time. But generally, yes.

You don't ever notice it, but Cheese in the Trap has a very wide cast of characters. I would say you don't notice it because it plays out a lot like real life. No random wedding gatherings, no cross dressing, and no super pretigious rich people school. It's setting is really realistic as well as it's story. It's dramatic, but in a nice way not in a soap opera, k-drama way. That's what I like about it. It's like watching everyday drama that's really interseting, but it's not laughable....

Okay this is starting to get a little weird.

Anyway, the story is led by it's characters and their relationships with each other. The story is interesitng but it's the characters that are the most intersing. The art style, which I failed to talk about, is also pretty unique but also really pretty.

You know what, this is more like a praising thing, or reaction or like a reverse rant. I shall direct you to a review that is much better on reviewing this than I am and I am probably going to begin following her...... Yup. 0-0
She is me right now.
*copies shrugs*
