Korean Webcomics

My friend first introduced to me to webcomics through one called The Friendly Winter 3 years ago. I never actually read the comic, it was just something she talked to me a lot about. 2 years later I re-disvocred webcomics and ended up reading one called Cherry Boy, That Girl and became immediately obsessed with and check it frequently and regularly to this day. I later found Cheese in the Trap, another major obssesor and through this comic found LINEWebtoon where an app (or site) translates Korean webcomics to English with regular updates each week.

Even if you don't read past this or skip the first paragraph, let's just take a minute to praise the fact that over 50 comics get updated on a regular basis each week, without fail. Just, just appreciate that for a moment.

Korean webcomics, or webtoons, are unique pieces of work. The majority of them made in color, and they have interesting stories and varying genres. AKA, manga in color, and Korean. The first two webtoons mentioned above are sadly not featured on LINEWebtoon, (liiiiiink) but can be found on any manga reading website.

You know those times when you get addicted to a specifc genre of anime? This is kind of like that. Webtoons seem to have a more interesting and varying range of ideas and storylines than what a lot of manga. Well at the very least, it's easier to sift through the webtoons of what you'll like, one using the app, and two because there are fewer out there and for the most part are good quality.  A really popular webtoon is Tower of God, although everyone calls it a manga.(from what I've heard)

Though sadly I haven't seen or heard of any webtoon getting an anime/being animated, I have heard of some getting live action dramas. So what I'm basically saying is that maybe if you're looking for something new, you should go check out some stuff on Webtoon, or when searching for something to read check out webtoons.

And now, some summaries of Webtoons I highly recommend. (mostly because I love them, meaning bias)

Tower of God: BAM and his friend RACHEL live in a dark space and RACHEL dreams of seeing of the stars. The Tower gives her the chance. She opened the gate to the Tower, a legend that says if you reach the top you'll be granted any wish. When BAM follows her through the Tower, he has to pass the levels to ascend, but he is virtually powerless. What will happen?

Cheese in the Trap: *sidenote, I flipping love this webcomic so much! KYA! JUNG!*
Hong Sul is an ordinary college student. Yoo Junig is the most popular upperclassman. He is good looking, rich, smart, and even super nice! Although from her experiences, Sul can't help but think that there is more than meets the eye with Jung. Everything starts getting strange when she comes back from her break.

The God of Highschool: While an island half-disappearing form the face of the earth, a mysterious organization is sending gout invitations for a tournament ot every skilled fighter in the world. If you win you can have anything you want. They're recruiting ont eh best to fight the best and claim the title of The God of High School.

Other great stuff includes:

Hooky
The Friendly Winter
Anti Anti Angel
Cherry Boy, That Girl
Sidekicks
Smilebrush
Un:Touchable
DICE
Girls of the Wild's
Story of Someone We Know
Noblesse

And these are just a few I've read and enjoyed. There are a ton more. So check it out for an interesting read, or an interesting and consuming new obsession. Heheh, like me. \(^w^)/
