First of all, this isn't going to be a review, or for that matter, really a rant either. Just my thoughts that I have to vent out somewhere (blog) just to feel as if I'm not going to die a slow, cruel death of injustice by Walnut.

First of all, this manhwa, more specifically it's a webtoon, is written by South Ant and, of course called, in english, Cherry Boy, That Girl. It's a shoujo but way far from the stereotypical boy meets girl. The heroine at the beginning already has a boyfriend, a pretty one at that, the heroine is also kind of narcissistic jack @^!, and the boy she's falling for doesn't even like her anymore.... but likes her cross dressing (ex) boyfriend who just so happens to be cuter than our heroine.
Strange beginning huh? That approximates the first 3 chapters of this series that is also a comedy. If you couldn't already tell. I think it's really good so far, getting itself an original and some what realistic outlook on this girl's high school developing life. Of course there are some stereotypes and cliches of shoujo manga in there but the most popular shoujo anime out right now (Ao Haru Ride) has some major cliches rolled up into the overall plot line. And the one that pretty much everyone knows, *cough cough* SAYILOVEYOU, *COUGH* is just a big rolled up banal shoujo mess. (Not saying that I don't really like that anime. It's pretty awesome for a cliche.)
Currently 21 chapters are translated to English, and 96 are raw. Here is the link for anybody who can read korean and in terms of this manga, are better than everybody else because they can comprehend the next NINETY SIX CHAPTERS, while us Americans, or any other alternate cultured person, has to wait. Every week. For ONE CHAPTER. IF, and only IF, the translators aren't too lazy to not release one. (bless those translators souls! but they need to HURRY THE EF UP!!! *grumpy face*)

WWHHHHYYY WALNUT WHHHY!!!!!!???!!??!?!?!?!?!? Oh gog, it was going so well! You and Strawberry were my OTP! It wasn't what you thought! A misunderstanding!! I swear go back please! Why did you have to break up with her? I mean, I kind of knew it was coming but WHHHHYYYY!!! I swear she didn't mean it! Since I can't read korean I don't really know what happened between her a Mandarin that one time but I swear to all things good NOTHING HAPPENED! Please, please, please, please, please PLEASE! Oh Wally I was rooting for you since the beginning! Since you first couldn't even touch her! Oh god, it's been over EIGHTY CHAPTERS! You can't just BREAK UP! Your killing me!!! ReplyDeleteThis is so discouraging to see with this take-for-granted behavior. You're not entitled to how fast the translators work when they sacrifice time they'll never get back with this sort of behavior.
What you pointed out isn't take-for-granted behaviour. The majority of us understand how difficult it is to create scanlations, but it's natural to express frustration when you have to wait for them to translate the next chapter into English, despite there being 20+ chapters already out in the raw.

I don't know if it's sarcastic. It's a common sentiment I see expressed in many forums. Why don't the people who complain hurry the eff up and learn Korean? The scanlators are doing us a huge favor. While I would of course love if chapters came out more frequently, I realize I'm in no position to expect it. Not everybody feels the way I do.
DeleteUm.. As the person who wrote this. Yeah, it was sarcastic. When I wrote this I had just finished skimming over all of the raws and of course would emotional frustrated. So that dude above this comment is correct when saying it's sarcastic. If I didn't appriciate the translators I'd be a real jerk. I mean, that's how I read a lot of manga. So yeah, and if learning another language was as easy as that then yup, that would most certainly be a great idea. I understand your feelings about being frustrated but I was just being sarcastic and if I ever meet a translaor in person, I might just hug them~! (but respect personal space and would settle with a handshake and a thankyou~~)

Now Cherry and Walnut is a couple I could ship. But based on chapter 94 I think walnut and Strawberry will work out

ReplyDeleteAlright, I just finished reading chapter 104... in tears. Omfg. Since I first saw Wally I swear I knew he'd be in the love... square/triangle/drama/whatever it is. And I was right - serves me right for reading so much shoujo manga my brain might explode one day. :,D (though Berry liking Cinna in middle school was very unexpected to me lol)
Anyways, Wally was my favorite character for so long, as he was so cute most of the time. When the plot took a turn and it turned out that he was the heir and a rich boy, I thought that he might be too perfect and too good to be so hung up on Berry, and well, Berry doesn't voice out her thoughts so OF COURSE there'd be so many misunderstandings. I'm not the most fond of rich boys as my favorite character, and Walnut, oh he's precious don't get me wrong, but... I don't know. I wish he'd listen and understand, but he's already perfect so I can't expect so much from him haha.
Wally doesn't know that Berry truly does like him, and that she didn't react as bad as he hoped because she felt like she was weighing him down and making him suffer all the time. Berry thinks that Wally hates her for breaking up but he really means well and did it because he LIKED HER. And freaking Darin I want to strangle him but can't because he's got these puppy-eyes-effect.
Mandarin Kim makes my mind fluctuate. At some points, I really do pity him and wish that Strawberry wouldn't be so harsh on him. On the other hand, Berry might just have to force herself to do so in order to keep her faithfulness with Wally. But Darin's delusional beliefs that insist Berry still loves him makes me think that he's some possessive yandere, but then he cries like a human being and his mother complex and UGH. That makes me think that Sage isn't so similar to him, and Darin has a reason why he doesn't think that he's at all like her. And I also don't understand Pear's stupidity sometimes, even though the recent chapters have revealed a side of him I liked seeing.
Sorry, I needed to rant! This manwha frustrates me and only leaves me wanting more omg. But last thoughts: Walnut Kang is the most precious thing in this story, Strawberry Shin annoys me in different levels (but not nearly as much as the beginning so it's alright), Mandarin Kim makes me question if I beat the world record of how often I take and retract my pity bank, Pear Kang has my respect, never in a million years would I ever expect to laugh so much at Cherry Kim's antics, and Cinnamon Kwon is hilarious. Oh, and La-Min annoys me like Cherry's feelings towards her (lol), and Lime Moon... girl please chill. And Sage got sass but I'm kinda glad because I've grown a bit tired over overly nice girls - they seem inhuman, not that they don't exist in real life (in fact I seem like one of them unfortunately...). Maybe my favorite character in the end is Berry's sister because she gives no drama.

ReplyDeleteDarin became a crazy little spoiled brat. Ughh. In the beginning I was shipping darin and berry. But he's soooo arrogant to the point that he became annoying to me. He's so positive that berry will not leave him and he didn't cherish her and always make her feel small. And now that its BerryxWally, he wants to ruin their relationship.
If I were Darin, I would treasure her from the start so that I wouldn't lose her. And she won't look for other guys cause she knows you love her very much.
Just read 109...sooo can't wait for the net scan to come out to read. Did WallyxBerry really get back together? Whose Wedding was it? What happened in the two year time span when Darin left? (Not that I cared for that nut job! lol)

ReplyDeleteFound out that Berry didn't like him but Cinna. Well.... To be truthfully honest, I pitied him a lot. It's just that it hurts if you knew your efforts are wasted for nothing.
At first, I thought berry and darin would really end up together. Like a funny love story. A narcissist girl and a pretty guy. To tell you the truth, I REALLY SHIPPED THEM SO BAD, THAT I ROOTED FOR THEM EVEN IF THEY BROKE UP. ( haha I'm sorry i have this kind of attitude, soo sorry ) But.... As I continued reading the Manhwa, I think that Darin had crossed the line, like he's really turning into a yandere or should i say a possessive yandere. But you know, Even if Darin and Berry didn't end up together, I will forever ship them just as I ship berry and wally. It wad too bad though since Darin loved Berry with all of his heart that he even got so crazy.
Anyways, The end of the Manhwa was okay. ( I'm the type of person who reads the last page and checks if it is a happy ending or not. Please. Don't judge. ) So for the people who hadn't read the ending yet. Here it is :
So the person who actually held the wedding was for Pear Kang with her Anonymous yet splendid woman. So yeah, I forgot.. Some chapters later Darin will decide to leave for America to be a model. So yeah. Then soon after Wally and Berry decided to broke up for some reason but get this, don't cry on your shoes yet Wallyx Berry fans, THEY GOT BACK TOGETHER UNTIL THE VERY END!!! ^^
During Pear kang's wedding, Darin mysteriously appeared at the wedding which shocked everyone especially Pear Kang. Well the reason he returned was to thank Pear for all his help. After that Wally and Berry were having their lovey-dovey moment, planning their future plans and they lived happily ever after.^^

I think the author made this manhwa so it can transform better into a tv drama. Why else forced a Cinderella ending while a common people ending works just fine? Mandarin Kim is a conceited and vain guy, who even got a cliche modelling job at the end, but he surely worked hard to get Berry Shin back. I can already imagined k-pop idols will be casted as the main role

ReplyDeletei'm really sooooo hooked up with this Manhwa like I finished the whole 110 chapters in a day (≧∇≦) at some point I thought Pear was a Son from another man that's why he was given so much favors by Wally's Mom. I liked the Idea of having Wally being so strick about money to Berry and lived like a commoner (I supposed?) in the last chapter but well that was Walter after all (*giving off 10M worth of ring and saying it was a cheap one so it wont turn out that he's a show off). That thing about Pear and Darin in the ending gives a little Yaoi feels haha! I really love the storyline It's one of the best o(〃＾▽＾〃)o I'M DEEPLY IN LOVE WITH WALTER (οΎ*>∀<)οΎ♡ KYAAA~
ReplyDeleteat first I knew that some would only notice walnut because he's character is a good one but I really love Darin because he never showed his affection towards Berry until walnutxberry (blehhh) started hahaha. Yes maybe Darin...hmmm... he's delusional but as far as all readers know, time tested him and proves how much love he has for Berry. Berry has become distant of him because all she knew their love was a lie.
